And the environment...
The landscape is made up of small and large dunes, sandy plateaux and wadis lined with Tamarisk trees. Numerous wadis flow from the north, bringing precious water to the few ephemeral pastures.
There are acacias, tamarisk trees with small pink flowers, the sodom apple tree, which draws its roots from the wadi beds of the desert, and the rose of Jericho or "resurrection plant", which rolls over the small pebble banks.
If you're lucky, you'll spot the fennec, the golden jackal, the Barbary hyena and the small dorcas gazelle. Desert mammals are discreet and some are on the verge of extinction, making them hard to spot.
